Renae Desai is the Dean of the School of Media and Communication at Murdoch University and holds the academic rank of Associate Professor. She specializes in Strategic Communication and Web Communication, serving as Academic Chair of the Bachelor of Communication program. Her research focuses on crisis management, digital media strategies, health communication, and international education. She directs Murdoch's MESH consultancy, a student-led academic and communication service, and leads the Australian Asbestos Network, a health communication initiative funded by the NHMRC. Renae has extensive industry experience in public relations and digital communication, managing websites and social media for diverse projects.
Her educational background includes prior roles as a practitioner and academic, merging industry insights with academic rigor. Key projects include the CRC TiME knowledge transfer initiative and the PRIA EDUCom portal. She is affiliated with the College of Law, Arts and Social Sciences and is a Fellow of Communication and Public Relations Australia (FCPRA).
