René Repasi

René Repasi is a Professor of Public and Private Interests at Erasmus University Rotterdam and a Visiting Professor at the GSI. He holds a PhD in Law from the University of Heidelberg (2016) and specializes in European law, particularly focusing on the EU's Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), internal market law, and the legitimacy of EU institutions.

His research spans legal aspects of economic and financial governance, banking regulation, and constitutional implications of EMU. Repasi has served as a legal expert for the European Parliament on issues like the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), and Brexit, and is actively involved in the European Law Moot Court competition as a case drafter and judge.

He is also a Member of the European Parliament (Socialists and Democrats group) since February 2022, chairing the German Social Democrats (SPD) and coordinating the S&D group in the Legal Affairs Committee (JURI). He studied law at Heidelberg and Montpellier I universities, completed a legal clerkship at the European Commission and Court of Justice, and previously directed the Erasmus Centre for Economic and Financial Governance.
