Remi Jedwab is an Associate Professor of Economics and International Affairs at George Washington University, holding dual appointments in the Elliott School of International Affairs and the Department of Economics. He serves as Director of the Institute for International Economic Policy and teaches full-time in the MA International Economic Policy program.

Research Focus
Professor Jedwab specializes in Development Economics, Urban Economics, Public Economics, and Political Economy with regional expertise in Sub-Saharan Africa. His research investigates urbanization and structural transformation, population growth-economic growth relationships, transportation infrastructure impacts, and institutional/human capital roles in development. Recent work examines urbanization without economic growth—a phenomenon featured in The Atlantic's CityLab and Boston Globe—demonstrating his focus on real-world development paradoxes through rigorous empirical analysis published in top journals including American Economic Review and Journal of Urban Economics.
