Remco de Bree is a Full Professor and Head of the Department of Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at the UMC Utrecht Cancer Center, University Medical Center Utrecht, The Netherlands. He studied medicine at Utrecht and earned his PhD at VU University Medical Center, focusing on radiolabelled monoclonal antibodies in head and neck cancer. After completing otolaryngology training in 1999, he spent 14 years as a head and neck surgeon at VU before assuming his current role in 2015.
His research centers on optimizing diagnostic imaging techniques, sentinel node procedures, reconstructive surgery, and quality of life in head and neck cancer patients. He leads interdisciplinary efforts to develop imaging-based decision support systems for precision oncology, aiming to enhance diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment triaging.
Recent publications highlight his work in AI limitations in oncology, PET/CT applications, FAPI-PET for radiotherapy, and age-related treatment challenges. These span keywords like oncological imaging, surgical innovation, and patient-centered outcomes.
