معرفی
Ir. Rein van der Mast is a Research Leader in 3D Printing in Metals at Fontys University of Applied Sciences, with a focus on laser powder bed fusion (PBF-LB/M) technology. He holds a specialization in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design from Delft University of Technology, and has over two decades of experience in additive manufacturing (AM) since his first 3D printing prototypes in the mid-1990s. At Fontys, he leads research on metal AM at the Brainport Industries Campus, utilizing advanced equipment like the Renishaw RenAM 500S. He also initiated the Industrial Additive Manufacturing in Metals (IAMM) partnership, uniting Dutch and Belgian institutions and industries.
Education:
- Industrial Design Engineering, Delft University of Technology
His research bridges theoretical AM advancements with practical industrial applications, particularly in optimizing scanpath algorithms for miniaturization and analyzing inherent strain in metal prints. He collaborates extensively with KU Leuven on his PhD thesis, supervised by Prof. Dr. Brecht Van Hooreweder and supported by ASML and Materialise. His projects, such as RoSuRF, address critical challenges like fatigue strength in thin-walled AM components for high-tech sectors.
Recent publications highlight his work in AM design paradigms, process limitations, and organizational shifts required for successful AM integration. He emphasizes cross-institutional collaboration and sustainable manufacturing practices.
