Reid Adams, Ph.D., is a Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Biology at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA), where he has been since 2003. He earned his Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University in 2004. His research focuses on stream fish ecology, particularly conservation and restoration in upland streams and river-floodplain ecosystems. He teaches courses in General Ecology, Biometry, Aquatic Ecology, and Vertebrate Zoology.
Dr. Adams' research emphasizes understanding fish habitat dynamics, biodiversity, and human impacts on aquatic systems. His lab's work includes studies on species like alligator gar, pallid shiner, and redfin darter, with a focus on their ecological roles and conservation needs. A key resource for his research is the Adams Fish Ecology Lab, which hosts current projects and publications.
His publications span over two decades, addressing topics such as fish assemblage shifts, floodplain connectivity, and the effects of land use on aquatic communities. Recent work highlights long-term ecological changes in Ozark rivers and the impact of commercial navigation on fish populations.
While no scientific awards are explicitly mentioned, his extensive publication record reflects sustained contributions to aquatic ecology. He advises graduate students in UCA's biology program, focusing on stream and river ecosystems.
