Regina Schäfer

PD Dr. Regina Schäfer is an Associate Professor at the Department of History and Cultural Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Her research focuses on medieval history, particularly the nobility, rural society, and the 15th-century transformation in the Middle Rhine and Hesse regions. She holds a habilitation thesis (2024) on late medieval administration in Augsburg and a 1996 doctoral dissertation on the Lords of Eppstein. Currently on leave until April 2025 for the DFG project 'Regesta Civitatum Imperialium.'

Teaching includes seminars on medieval topics like chivalry, rural society, and women in the Middle Ages. Active in academic organizations such as the Hessian Historical Commission and the Institute for Historical Regional Studies.
