Regina R. Rodrigues is a Professor of Physical Oceanography at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Brazil, specializing in climate science, marine heatwaves, and ocean-atmosphere interactions. She earned her PhD from the Graduate School of Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island and worked with NOAA in the USA prior to joining UFSC in 2010.
- Key Research Areas: Climate modeling, inter-basin climate interactions (particularly Pacific-Atlantic coupling), marine heatwaves, and climate change impacts on ocean systems.
- Editorial Role: Review Editor for the IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Land (SRCCL).
Her recent publications focus on extreme marine heatwave events, climate model analyses for southern Brazil, and global south climate equity. Collaborations include international institutions like GEOMAR and NOAA, with studies examining ocean deoxygenation, biodiversity loss, and sewage-induced eutrophication in the SW Atlantic.
Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to understanding climate dynamics and their ecological consequences, particularly in underrepresented regions of the Global South.
