Regina Binder

Regina Binder is a faculty member at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, affiliated with the Documentation and Information Centre for Animal Welfare Law & Veterinary Law. Her work focuses on legal frameworks governing animal welfare, including

• animal protection laws
• animal testing regulations
• animal transport legislation
• human-animal legal relationships

Binder contributes to academic teaching through courses such as Animal Husbandry, Animal Welfare Law, and Animal Testing Law, targeting veterinary and biomedical students. Her research emphasizes the harmonization of legal standards with ethical animal treatment and public veterinary health.

In 2024, she authored the fifth edition of Austrian Animal Welfare Law, a foundational text in the field. This work synthesizes her expertise in legislative reforms, including the federal Animal Protection Act and its implementation across Austria.

The Documentation Centre, co-organized by the Messerli Institute for Human-Animal Relations and the Center for Animal Nutrition and Animal Welfare Sciences, serves as a hub for legal inquiries and educational initiatives under her leadership. It supports authorities, researchers, and the public in addressing animal-related legal challenges.
