Regina Ann Macatangay, MD is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) and serves as the Clerkship Director for Pediatrics. She is a dedicated clinician-educator in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, with clinical expertise in sickle cell disease, pediatric cancers, and inherited blood disorders. Dr. Macatangay co-directs the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology-Genetics clinic and actively contributes to medical education and student mentorship programs.
Her academic foundation includes undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, medical training at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Pediatric residency and chief residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center, and fellowship training in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Weill Cornell Medical College.
Dr. Macatangay's research focuses on Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, with specific interests in Sickle Cell Disease management, Inherited Blood Disorders, Neuro-Oncology, and Wilms Tumor. Her work includes establishing integrated clinical programs and conducting translational research on hematologic conditions in children. She has published extensively on case reports and clinical studies addressing rare presentations and therapeutic challenges.
Her recent publications demonstrate a strong emphasis on sickle cell complications, pediatric cancer genetics, and multidisciplinary clinical approaches. The research portfolio reflects ongoing innovation in diagnosing and managing complex hematologic and oncologic conditions in pediatric patients.

Her clinical research is supported through active participation in the Children's Oncology Group and American Society of Hematology. She contributes to institutional committees including the Education Strategic Plan Committee and Medical Education Leadership Academy.
Dr. Macatangay co-directs the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology-Genetics Program and participates in the Pediatric Oncology Tumor Board and Palliative Care Team. Her work integrates clinical care, genetic counseling, and educational innovation to address complex pediatric hematologic and oncologic conditions.
