Refika Sarıönder is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Psychology at Wichita State University, affiliated with the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Community Psychology Program. She holds a Ph.D. in Community Psychology (2019), M.A. in Psychology (2016), Dipl. Soz. in Sociology (University of Bielefeld, 1996), and a B.A. in Sociology (Boğaziçi University, 1993).
Her research focuses on ritual dynamics, Alevi religious practices, and minority issues, with a particular emphasis on the intersection of ritual performance and cultural transformation. She has published widely on topics such as the Alevi cem ritual in urban contexts and religious minorities in Germany.
Recent publications include analyses of ritual reflexivity in Turkish religious practices and studies on pious Muslim communities in Europe. She has co-authored works on Alevi rituals and contributed to edited volumes on ritual studies. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges sociology, anthropology, and religious studies.
