معرفی
Reece Oosterbeek is an Associate Professor of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford and a Tutorial Fellow at Lincoln College. His research focuses on developing bioresorbable materials and mechanical metamaterials for medical implants, with expertise in additive manufacturing and polymer-glass composites. He holds a BE(Hons) and ME in Chemical and Materials Engineering from the University of Auckland, and a PhD in Materials Science and Metallurgy from the University of Cambridge (2020), funded by the Woolf Fisher Scholarship.
His career includes postdoctoral research at Imperial College London, where he pioneered work on additively manufactured metal lattice materials for orthopedic implants. At Oxford, he leads research into advanced medical materials, combining mechanical engineering principles with biomedical applications. Key themes include optimizing material degradation timelines, enhancing structural performance of lattice designs, and improving surface treatments for titanium implants.
Recent studies explore shear behavior in PLA polymers, surface treatments for fatigue resistance, and computational tools like StrutSurf for analyzing lattice morphology. His work bridges fundamental material science with clinical applications, aiming to improve implant durability and biocompatibility. Awards include the Woolf Fisher Scholarship, recognizing his doctoral contributions to bioresorbable composites.
He advises on DPhil opportunities in metamaterials and bioresorbable systems, collaborating with the Solid Mechanics and Materials Engineering Group. His research has been showcased in high-impact journals, addressing both theoretical and applied challenges in biomedical materials.
