Recai Yucel is a Professor of Biostatistics and Assistant Director of Biostatistics at Temple University’s College of Public Health, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Previously, he served as Chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at SUNY Albany. He holds a PhD from Penn State University and completed postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School. His research focuses on missing data methodologies, measurement error, computational algorithms, and their applications in health services research, social sciences, and public health. He has published over 75 articles and secured grants from NIH, CDC, and NSF.
Education:
- PhD in Statistics, Penn State University
- MA in Statistics, Penn State University
- BS in Statistics, Gazi University (Ankara, Turkey)
Research Interests: Dr. Yucel develops statistical methods to address missing data challenges in complex surveys and health studies. His work emphasizes computational efficiency, hierarchical modeling, and Bayesian approaches. Substantive areas include environmental health, infectious diseases, chronic illness management, and health disparities. Recent projects explore biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease in HIV-positive women and epigenetic changes post-COVID-19.
Grants & Awards:
- NIH, CDC, and NSF grants (multiple roles as PI/Co-PI)
- Fellowship from ASA and NCHS for missing data research
Labs/Teams: Leads statistical methodology development in Temple’s Biostatistics Unit, collaborating with researchers on projects ranging from maternal pesticide exposure studies to ICU patient outcomes analysis.
