Rebecca Valerius is an Associated Member of the Integrated Graduate School and currently serves as Personal Advisor to the Rector of the PH Karlsruhe and Managing Director of the LRK of the Universities of Education in Baden-Württemberg. Previously held roles include Research Associate (2014-2017) and Research Assistant (2019-2020) at Justus Liebig University Giessen, alongside scholarship and visiting researcher positions at the Leibniz Institute of European History and German Historical Institute Paris.
Educated at the University of Trier (M.A. with distinction, 2014) and University of Giessen, her research focuses on legal history (international law/constitutional history) and diplomatic history with special emphasis on Ottoman-European relations. Her doctoral project examines hostage-taking practices in the Early Modern period.
Publications include analyses of 16th/17th-century security treaties and Habsburg-Ottoman diplomatic perspectives. Awards include academic distinction in state examinations and scholarships from prestigious institutions. Teaching experience includes leading tutorials on Early Modern history and paleography-assisted source analysis.
