Dr. Rebecca Steidl is an Associate Professor in the Department of Liberal Arts & Sciences (Public Health Education) at Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa. She holds a PhD in Microbiology from Michigan State University (2015), an MS in Biology from Illinois State University (2007), and a BS in Biology, Chemistry, and Biochemistry from Illinois State University (2004). Her research focuses on microbial genetics and electroactive biofilms, particularly studying charge transport mechanisms in Geobacter species and Bacillus subtilis nickel defense systems.

- MS, Biology, Illinois State University (2007)
- BS, Biology/Chemistry/Biochemistry, Illinois State University (2004)
Dr. Steidl's work explores microbial nanowires, biofilm conductivity, and their applications in bioremediation and energy production. She has contributed to understanding tunnelling and hopping conduction pathways in bacterial pili through molecular dynamics simulations and experimental characterization.
Her publications demonstrate sustained contributions to microbial electrochemistry and biofilm engineering. While no formal scientific awards are listed, her patented innovations in microbial nanowire technology (U.S. Patents 9,601,1227 and 8,846,890) highlight her translational research impact. Dr. Steidl is affiliated with the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) and teaches courses including General Biology, Microbiology, Genetics, and Pathogenic Microbiology at Mercy College.
