Rebecca Sideman is a Professor and Department Chair of Agriculture, Nutrition & Food Systems at the University of New Hampshire (UNH), where she has been employed since 2004. She is also a researcher affiliated with the New Hampshire Agricultural Experiment Station.
- Education: Ph.D. in Plant Breeding from Cornell University (2004), B.A. in Biological & Biomedical Sciences from Dartmouth College (1998)
Her research focuses on sustainable specialty crop production, emphasizing cost-effective and ecologically sound methods for northern New England farmers. Recent projects include evaluating new crops and cultivars, optimizing season extension technologies, and improving postharvest practices for vegetables and berries.
Publications highlight her work on lettuce disease resistance (using QTL mapping), cold-climate grape production, soil health in high tunnels, and regional strawberry farming trends. Her approach integrates research and extension activities to bridge academic findings with practical agricultural applications.
She teaches courses such as SAFS 405 (Sustainable Agriculture), SAFS 760 (Insect Pest Management), and ANFS 997 (ANFS Seminar), contributing to both undergraduate and graduate education at UNH.
