Rebecca Shipley

Professor Rebecca Shipley OBE FREng is a Professor of Healthcare Engineering at University College London's Department of Mechanical Engineering. She leads research in model-based techniques for understanding tissue function, data-driven physiological predictions, and healthcare technology development. Her roles include former leadership of the UCL Institute of Healthcare Engineering (2018–2024) and co-leadership of the UCL-Ventura programme, which delivered critical non-invasive ventilators during the pandemic. She is also Chief Research Officer at UCLPartners, a healthcare innovation agency focused on NHS patient outcomes.

Her research emphasizes translating scientific discoveries into clinical practice, with a focus on healthcare engineering and tissue repair mechanisms. Key areas include biomedical engineering applications, medical device innovation, and systems for improving global healthcare access.
