Dr Rebecca K. Smith is a Senior Research Associate at the Department of Zoology, University of Cambridge. She leads the Conservation Evidence project, which synthesizes subject-wide evidence to inform habitat and species conservation strategies. Her work includes collaborations with practitioners, policy makers, and the Evidence Champion Programme, aimed at improving conservation decision-making through tools like the Evidence Toolkit.
- Education: Doctorate and undergraduate degree from the University of Bristol; MSc in Applied Ecology and Conservation from the University of East Anglia.
- Prior Roles: Managed a Darwin Initiative project on mammal management in Western Cape nature reserves; worked as a Senior Ecological Consultant in the UK.
Her research focuses on evidence synthesis for conservation effectiveness, ecological barriers, and solutions for biodiversity preservation. She co-develops resources like What Works in Conservation and the Conservation Evidence Journal, an open-access publication for testing conservation actions.
