Dr. Rebecca Hofmann is a Researcher at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Freiburg, since April 2015. She holds a doctoral degree from the interdisciplinary doctoral program 'Environment and Society' at the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society, LMU Munich (2015). Her research focuses on climate change, human-nature relationships, spatial perception, transnational networks, and knowledge landscapes. Regional priorities include Oceania (Micronesia), India, and Alaska.
Her academic career includes roles as a Research Associate in projects funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), such as 'Climates of Migration' (2010–2013) and 'Sustainable Development of Megacities' (2008–2010). Fieldwork spans Chuuk (Micronesia), Hyderabad (India), and Alaska. Notable contributions include publications on climate change adaptation in Pacific islands and food security in urban India.
Her research methodologies emphasize qualitative approaches to understand societal responses to environmental challenges. She has contributed to special issues in journals like Global Environment and Anthropological Forum, focusing on small island vulnerabilities and migration dynamics.
