Dr. Rebecca L. Harrison is a Professor of English at the University of West Georgia, affiliated with the School of Humanities within the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. She holds leadership roles as President of the Eudora Welty Society and Co-Editor of the Eudora Welty Review. Harrison specializes in American and Women’s Literature, Gender Studies, and pedagogical innovation.
Education: M.A. (English, Georgia State University, 1997), Ph.D. (English, Georgia State University, 2007).
Research focuses on Southern literature, particularly Eudora Welty and Beatrice Witte Ravenel, alongside cross-disciplinary pedagogical strategies. Her publications include co-edited volumes on Julia Alvarez and seminal works on classroom innovation. She has been recognized with major teaching awards: 2015 Robert Reynolds Award, 2016 USG Regents Teaching Award, and 2022 Honors College Mentorship Award.
Advising and mentorship form a core part of her work, reflected in her role as Honors College Research Mentor. She has held prestigious fellowships, including the 2016 Obama Fellowship for Southern Literature at Johannes Gutenberg University (Germany).
Active in academic service, Harrison teaches courses ranging from English Composition to senior seminars on 'Bad Girls & The South,' emphasizing gender studies and innovative teaching methods.
