She is also a researcher with the McMaster Institute for Research on Aging.
Dr. Ganann's research program focuses on integrated health and social service delivery innovations to promote physical and mental health, and mobility among community-dwelling older adults. Her work spans critical areas including aging, primary health care, patient and citizen engagement, patient-centered care, and clinical nursing with emphasis on preventive care. She employs community co-design approaches in developing interventions such as the Aging, Community and Health Research Unit-Community Partnership Program (ACHRU-CPP) and the EMBOLDEN study (Enhancing physical and community MoBility in OLDEr adults with health inequities using commuNity co-design).
Her recent publication record (2022-2025) demonstrates significant productivity with over 30 articles addressing mobility interventions for older adults, diabetes self-management programs, patient engagement strategies, and implementation science. These works frequently employ mixed-methods approaches and emphasize community co-design, with particular attention to vulnerable older adult populations with multiple chronic conditions and health inequities.
- Received nearly $1 million from the Public Health Agency of Canada for community-based research on health, independence and mobility among older adults
- Developed the Engage with Impact Toolkit to support evaluation of patient, family and caregiver engagement
- Published extensively on scalability of community programs for older adults with chronic conditions
- Conducted research on transitional care interventions for older adults with stroke and multimorbidity
Dr. Ganann actively mentors early career researchers and integrates people with lived experience into the research process. Her work bridges the gap between academic research and practical healthcare applications, focusing on implementation and scalability of effective interventions for community-dwelling older adults.
