Rebecca Field is an Associate Professor of Pure Mathematics at the Department of Mathematics & Statistics, James Madison University since 2008. She holds a PhD (2000) and MS (1995) from the University of Chicago, and a BA (1994) in Mathematics and Studio Art from Bowdoin College. Her research focuses on algebraic topology and geometry, particularly interactions between algebraic groups and varieties. Notable projects include studies on classifying spaces of reductive groups, cohomology theories, and collaborations on string theory with Bryce Weaver and Ilarion Melnikov. She also explores applied mathematics in 3D printing, fabric design, and historical armor. Her work integrates interdisciplinary approaches, combining mathematical rigor with artistic expression.
