Rebecca Ewert is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Sociology at Northwestern University’s Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences. Her work focuses on the intersections of environmental sociology, health, gender (particularly masculinity), inequality, and culture. She employs qualitative methods to study how social categories like gender, class, race, and age shape experiences and recovery from environmental disasters.

Research interests include rumor dynamics post-disaster, gendered responses to health crises, and rural masculinity. Her recent work examines suicide prevention messaging in male-dominated rural communities and rumor creation during environmental catastrophes. Articles emphasize qualitative insights into socio-cultural dimensions of disaster recovery and health disparities.
Teaching focuses include Environment & Society, Sociology of Disaster, and Gender Studies. Her courses bridge theoretical frameworks with applied case studies, fostering critical analysis of societal structures in crisis contexts.
