معرفی
Rebecca Colquhoun (pronouns: they/them) is a Teaching Fellow in Geophysics and Quantitative Geoscience at Imperial College London's Department of Earth Science & Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering. They teach undergraduate courses in geophysics, mathematics, and allied subjects, including the Cyprus field trip with data processing components and third-year independent geophysics projects.
Education:
- MEarthSci in Earth Sciences, University of Oxford (2016-2020)
- DPhil in Environmental Research, University of Oxford (2020-2025)
Research Interests:
Their work centers on geophysics and quantitative geoscience, with specialized focus on earthquake mechanics and statistical seismology. Using global earthquake records, they investigate early rupture processes and magnitude dependencies at single-event scales, alongside large-scale earthquake nucleation mechanisms involving foreshocks. Research on New Zealand's Hikurangi subduction zone revealed complex nucleation processes mediated by fluid flow and aseismic slip.
Awards and Honors:
- Associate Fellowship, AdvanceHE
Teaching and Advising:
Rebecca supervises third-year independent geophysics projects and leads the Cyprus field expedition, emphasizing quantitative data analysis techniques. They integrate advanced statistical methods into geoscience pedagogy while developing curriculum for mathematics applications in earth sciences.
