Dr. Razak Khan is a Research Fellow at CeMIS (Center for Modern Indian Studies), part of Friedrich–Alexander University Erlangen–Nürnberg. He holds a DPhil from Freie Universität Berlin’s Berlin Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies (2014), and previously served as a postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development and Friedrich–Alexander University. His research focuses on early modern/modern Indian history, South Asian Islam, Urdu public cultures, and comparative Indo-German intellectual histories. Current work includes a habilitation project on Syed Abid Husain and a book on Rampur’s minority histories (Oxford UP, 2022).
His publications explore themes like colonial entanglements, transnational knowledge exchanges, and emotional archives. Notable works include analyses of Jewish-Muslim histories in colonial India, Urdu television dramas, and the social production of space in Rampur. Khan has also edited texts such as The Incomparable Festival (Penguin, 2021) and co-authored studies on transformative journeys and affective contacts.
