Raymond Yee is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and the Associate Dean of Engineering Extended Studies at San José State University's College of Engineering. He oversees 12 distinct engineering off-campus graduate programs, including AI, Robotics, Semiconductor Process, Renewable Energy, and Data Science.
Dr. Yee received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Mechanical Engineering in California since 1993.
His research expertise spans Finite element method, Mechanical Design, Mechanical behavior of materials, Fracture mechanics, Additive Manufacturing, and Product design & development. As Director of the Product Design Lab, he bridges theoretical engineering principles with practical applications in manufacturing and product development.
Dr. Yee's professional honors include:
- Three-time "Professor of the Year" recipient (2001, 2002, 2009)
- Applied Materials Award for Excellence in Teaching (2004)
- Provost's Assessment Awards (2007-2009)
- Induction into Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society (2024)
- CSU Edwards M. McAleer Jr. Excellence and Innovation Award (2023-2024)
- 2025 College of Engineering Faculty Award for Excellence in Service
His leadership roles include serving as Associate Chair (2006-2010, 2017-2020), ABET Coordinator (2010-2011), ME Program Director (2012-2013), and Interim Department Chair (December 2023-August 2024). He has made significant contributions to engineering standards through his 13-year service on the ASME/API Joint Fitness-for-Service Standard Committee.
