Professor Raymond Bond is a Professor of Human Computer Systems at the School of Computing, Ulster University, located in Belfast. He leads research in healthcare informatics, digital health, and usability engineering, with a focus on improving clinical decision-making through interactive systems and medical device design. Bond initiated the UX-Lab to bridge usability engineering knowledge with industry applications. His career includes over 350 research outputs and leadership roles in major conferences like the BCS Human Computer Interaction conference and International Society for Computerised Electrocardiology meetings.
Bond holds a BSc(hons) and PhD from Ulster University's School of Computing and Mathematics. He is a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and has coordinated computing outreach programs like the CEPEC-NI. His research has been funded by EPSRC, H2020, and Innovate UK, among others. Notable projects include developing a virtual simulator for healthcare communication skills, evaluating digital mental health apps, and creating lighting systems for dementia care environments.
His research interests span AI in healthcare, medical data analytics, and digital wellbeing interventions. He emphasizes translating technologies from lab to clinical settings, evidenced by his work on the InspireD Reminiscence App and STOP Project RCT for obesity management. Bond also contributes to radiology AI education and policy through studies on AI integration in medical imaging curricula.
