Rayane Moreira is an Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry at Hampshire College. She is located in the Cole Science Center 205 and can be contacted via rfmNS@hampshire.edu.
Education
- B.A. from Wellesley College
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Columbia University
- Postdoctoral work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on metalloenzyme mimics
Research Interests
Her research focuses on catalytic reactions of organic molecules and gases, with a particular emphasis on developing combinatorial methods for catalyst discovery and synthesizing metalloenzyme mimics. Her work intersects organic chemistry with environmental and biological applications, aiming to advance sustainable chemical processes and understand enzyme-inspired reactivity.
Teaching and Outreach
She teaches foundational courses in organic chemistry and laboratory techniques, including Organic Chemistry I and II, and Chemistry 2, which integrates thermodynamics, equilibrium, and electrochemistry. Her lab components emphasize experimental design, synthesis, and characterization methods like NMR, GC/MS, and column chromatography.
Personal Interests
Outside academia, she enjoys birdwatching, hiking, playing the violin, and traveling.
