Raul Medina is a Professor in the Department of Entomology at Texas A&M University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. His research integrates evolutionary ecology, population genetics, and integrated pest management, with additional focus on public perceptions of biotechnology. He serves as an ethical advisor to DARPA and the NIH, and leads initiatives to broaden academic representation.
Research explores modulation of species interactions through evolutionary factors, agricultural pest management sustainability, and societal acceptance of emerging biotechnologies. Key investigations include host-parasite coevolution, microbial influences on ecosystems, and genetic approaches to pest control.
Recent publications demonstrate strong emphasis on sustainable agriculture, arthropod-microbe interactions, and sociotechnical aspects of genetic engineering. Articles consistently address ecological sustainability and technology governance challenges.
Scientific honors include the Entomological Society of America's Distinguished Achievement Award for promoting diversity in entomology.
