Rathana Peou

Dr. Rathana Peou serves as a Visiting Professor at the Bangladesh Center of Advanced Studies (BCAS) and Policy Researcher at Utrecht University's Copernicus Institute. She has been the CCAFS Southeast Asia Scenarios Coordinator since 2017, previously coordinating South Asia scenarios from 2012, and maintains fellowships at the International Research Center on Sustainability (University of Reims) and IDDRI (Sciences Po Paris).

Education:

• PhD in Political Science (major: Philosophy, minor: Arabic)
• Master's degree in Political Science and Philosophy

Research Focus: Her work centers on the "4 inviolate principles" (food, water, energy, and social health security), with extensive research on climate-induced migration in Bangladesh, remittance impacts on development, and maladaptation. Current efforts analyze ASEAN food security and climate change futures through multi-stakeholder socio-economic scenarios to guide policy dialogue and climate-smart investments.

Advisory Roles: She serves on the Food Security for Aids and International Development Forum, Asia Pacific Migration Environment Network (APMEN), and Cambodia's Minister of Commerce advisory board.

Professional Background: Former Deputy Director of Bangladesh's Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) and Associate Professor at ULAB, she has consulted for DFID, USAID, ECHO, EU, ADB, and NGOs in Sudan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh on humanitarian program evaluation since pre-2009.
