Rashid Nazir

Rashid Nazir is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences at COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus, Pakistan. He holds a PhD from the University of Groningen (Netherlands), completed under the supervision of Prof. Jan Dirk van Elsas in 2012, with research focused on bacterial-fungal interactions in soil. He furthered his expertise as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, under the prestigious President’s International Fellowship Initiative (2015–2017), working on microbial ecology and environmental antibiosis.

His research spans microbial ecology, antibiotic resistance, biofertilizers, and glacial microbiology. He has secured significant national and international research grants from HEC (SRGP, NRPU), CUI (CRGP), ANSO, COMSTECH, and TWAS-IsDB. His work has been presented at major international conferences including ISME, FEMS, BAGECO, and the Pasteur Institute.

The recent publications highlight a strong trend in environmental microbiology and biogunctional applications—ranging from glacial pollutant analysis and wastewater treatment using microalgae to trace element dynamics in soils and novel lignocellulolytic bacteria.
