Dr. Knaier specializes in the physiological effects of artificial light on human performance and health. His research explores how specific light wavelengths influence athletic performance and weight management through non-visual pathways that regulate circadian rhythms. He presented his findings in the 2018 'Moving Moments' lecture series with a talk titled 'Light and Performance - How Athletes and Overweight People Benefit,' demonstrating expertise in translating scientific concepts for public audiences.
Scheduled to deliver a habilitation lecture on October 16, 2024, Dr. Knaier continues active research within the department's framework focusing on preventive sports medicine applications. His work bridges theoretical physiology with practical interventions for athletic performance enhancement and obesity management, contributing to the department's mission of integrating sports science with health promotion.
