Professor Ranjith Pathegama Gamage serves as Director of the Deep Earth Energy Laboratory and Professor of Sustainable Development of Energy and Resources at Monash University, globally recognised for pioneering sustainable subsurface engineering and resource recovery innovations.
His research advances environmentally responsible rock-breaking technologies for efficient resource extraction and transforms mining/industrial wastes into high-value materials, directly contributing to emissions reduction and circular economy goals. Work spans geothermal energy, carbon dioxide utilisation, and green mining with global industry impact.
His scientific recognition includes:
- Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng)
As a dedicated mentor, he has trained over 100 early-career researchers including award-winning PhD students, many now holding leadership positions across academia and industry.
He established the Deep Earth Energy Laboratory—an interdisciplinary hub uniting Australian and international institutions/industry partners—to develop next-generation extraction technologies for deep-earth energy and critical mineral recovery.
