Randy McIntosh

Randy McIntosh is a Professor and Director of the Institute for Neuroscience & Neurotechnology at Simon Fraser University, Canada. His research focuses on brain networks, music cognition, and computational neuroscience. He has pioneered tools like TheVirtualBrain and contributed to theories such as Structured Flow on Manifolds (SFM).

• Education: BSc from University of Lethbridge, MSc from University of Calgary, PhD from University of Texas at Austin, postdoctoral work at NIH.

Research interests include distributed brain functions, music’s role in neural dynamics, and applications to aging/dementia. Collaborators include Giulio Tononi, Olaf Sporns, and Viktor Jirsa. He leads a lab with 20+ members and has mentored over 30 alumni.

Publications include development of network analysis tools and SFM theory. His lab explores EEG and computational models to link music and brain dynamics. He balances scientific work with musical interests, documented in social media and a debut novel.
