Dr. Randy Guzman is a Professor and Head of the Section of Vascular Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Manitoba’s College of Medicine. He also holds key clinical and administrative roles at St. Boniface Hospital, including Service Chief of Vascular Surgery, Site Medical Manager, Director of the Asper Clinical Research Institute, and Director of the Vascular Research Program. He serves as Regional Lead for the Section of Vascular Surgery under the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) and is a Research Affiliate at the Canadian Centre for Agri-Food Research in Health and Medicine.
His educational background includes a Medical Doctorate from the University of Manitoba (1983), General Surgery Residency (1990), Vascular Surgery Fellowship (1991), and additional specialized training including a Senior Research Fellowship in Duplex Ultrasound at the University of Washington (1992) and an Interventional Vascular Radiology Fellowship (2006). He completed research rotations in Biomaterials at Laval University and Clothing & Textiles at the University of Manitoba.
Dr. Guzman's research focuses on vascular disease, clinical trials, endovascular therapies, and translational medicine. His work emphasizes improving patient outcomes through quality management systems and advancing the understanding of atherosclerosis via collaboration with basic scientists. He has pioneered endovascular repair for abdominal aortic aneurysms in Manitoba and developed a vision for a Vascular Centre of Excellence.

Dr. Guzman has served as principal investigator in 35 research studies and co-investigator in 20 others. He has secured multiple grants to support vascular research and has been instrumental in bringing novel therapies to Manitoban patients. He has supervised 8 graduate students and 7 vascular surgery fellows, contributing significantly to academic training. His leadership extends to national roles, including Past President of the Canadian Society of Vascular Surgery.
He leads the Vascular Clinical Research Program at St. Boniface Hospital, which includes a dedicated team of research nurses and assistants. He is deeply involved in the Endothelial Dysfunction program, fostering collaboration between clinicians and scientists to uncover the mechanisms of atherosclerosis. His leadership in the Asper Clinical Research Institute further strengthens institutional research capacity.
