Randall Erb

Randall Erb is a Professor in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Northeastern University's College of Engineering, where he directs research on composite materials, ceramic manufacturing, and magnetic assembly techniques. His work has applications in energy storage, thermal management, and structural materials.

He holds a Ph.D. from Duke University (2009) and leads the Directed Assembly of Particles & Suspensions (DAPS) laboratory, focusing on multiscale synthesis of functional composites. Research projects include NSF-funded studies on iron particle fuels, ARPA-E supported battery electrode development, and Raytheon-sponsored ceramic manufacturing.

Professor Erb's publications demonstrate innovations in bioinspired composite architectures, magnetic field-assisted manufacturing, and thermoformable ceramics. His 2012 Science paper on 3D magnetic assembly of composites represents foundational work in the field.

Awards include the 2017 Outstanding Translational Research Award recognizing his impactful materials innovations.
