Ran Libeskind-Hadas is the R. Michael Shanahan Professor of Computer Science and Department Chair at Harvey Mudd College, where he has served as a faculty member for 19 years. His teaching focuses on discrete mathematics, computer science fundamentals, complexity theory, and algorithms. He has been honored for teaching excellence, including the Iris and Howard Critchell Assistant Professorship (1996) and the Joseph B. Platt Endowed Chair (2005). Known for innovative pedagogy, he co-designed a cross-disciplinary CS and Biology introductory course and published in education-focused conferences.
His research in computational biology emphasizes algorithm design, supported by NSF grants. He has mentored 44 summer research students and 34 undergraduate research projects (theses and industry-sponsored). Beyond HMC, he serves as co-chair of the Computing Research Association's Education Committee and on the Computing Community Consortium Council, shaping national computing research visions.
Alumni recognition: Recipient of the 2012 Distinguished Academic Achievement Alumni Award from his alma mater, the University of Illinois (MS '89, PhD '93).
