Ramy Shaaban is an Associate Professor in the Department of Instructional Technology & Learning Sciences at Utah State University (USU), serving as the HEDI BS Program Coordinator. He holds a PhD in Communications Media and Instructional Technologies (Indiana University of Pennsylvania, 2020), an MA in Adult Education and Communications Technology (Indiana University of Pennsylvania, 2015), and an MD from Alexandria Faculty of Medicine (2009). His work bridges medical and educational technology, focusing on gamification, VR, and simulation-based learning.
Ramy’s research emphasizes emerging technologies in education, particularly in medical training. He has secured grants for VR simulation labs, developed online courses for first responders (e.g., ACT for Autism project), and pioneered Alexandria Virtual Medical School—a simulation platform awarded the Khalifa Award (2010). He advises the USU Esports Club and coordinates recruitment/retention efforts in his department.
His awards include the Khalifa Award for Best Educational Innovation in the Middle East, Alexandria University’s accreditation contribution award, and a Google/Egypt award for educational digital initiatives. Ramy has authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications and presented globally on topics like healthcare communication barriers, virtual patients, and VR in education.
Ramy’s technical expertise spans multimedia production (Adobe Premiere, 3D animation), game design, and instructional design. He actively seeks grants to fund learning games and internship networks for students, aiming to bridge academic training with industry needs.
