Ramsey Cheung

Ramsey Cheung is a Professor of Medicine (Gastroenterology and Hepatology) at Stanford University, affiliated with the School of Medicine. He holds academic appointments including membership in the Stanford Cancer Institute. His administrative roles include Chief of Hepatology at VAPAHCS since 1999 and Director of the Fellowship in GI & Hepatology program at Stanford since 2004. Dr. Cheung graduated from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 1982.

His research focuses on viral hepatitis, particularly mechanisms of hepatitis B and C infection, host-virus interactions, and improving healthcare models for veterans with chronic liver diseases. He has led studies on antiviral therapies, comorbidities, and liver transplantation outcomes. Notable clinical trials include investigating alcohol reduction interventions and novel antiviral combinations for hepatitis C.

Dr. Cheung has received multiple Teaching Awards from the Department of Medicine (2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2023). His work addresses gaps in hepatitis care, healthcare disparities, and liver disease epidemiology. He mentors fellows in gastroenterology and hepatology, contributing to advancing clinical and translational research in liver diseases.
