Ramon Blanco Chao is a Professor in the Department of Geography at the Faculty of Geography and History, University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). He is actively involved in research related to physical geography, with a focus on coastal systems and environmental heritage.
His research interests center on Physical Geography, particularly coastal geomorphology and morphodynamics. He investigates the evolution of rocky coasts in Galicia, including areas like Cabo Silleiro-A Garda. His work extends to the study of Atlantic cultural landscapes and the application of environmental studies to both natural and cultural heritage.
He is affiliated with the Interuniversity Research Center for Atlantic Cultural Landscapes (CISPAC) and has contributed to research groups such as GEMAP (Group of Environmental Studies Applied to Natural and Cultural Heritage), RODA (Reasoning, Discourse and Argumentation), and EcoPast. These affiliations highlight his interdisciplinary engagement across environmental science, heritage conservation, and historical landscape analysis.
Ramon Blanco completed his doctoral studies at the University of Santiago de Compostela with a thesis titled Differentiated geomorphological forms and processes on the coasts of Galicia, morphodynamics and evolution of a rocky coast sector, Cabo Silleiro-A Garda (Pontevedra) in 1999, supervised by Dr. Augusto Pérez Alberti.
