Ramin Sedaghati is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Aerospace Engineering at Concordia University. His research focuses on smart materials and adaptive systems, with particular emphasis on magnetorheological (MR) elastomers and fluids. He investigates their applications in energy absorption, structural optimization, and vibration control, often employing advanced computational mechanics techniques such as finite element analysis and cellular automata frameworks.
His work spans experimental and theoretical domains, including the characterization of MR materials' magneto-viscoelastic behavior under various conditions (e.g., temperature, strain amplitude). He also explores novel control strategies for soft robotics and semi-active vibration isolators, integrating AI-driven approaches for improved performance. Recent studies involve adaptive sandwich plates, non-pneumatic wheels, and miniaturized pneumatic artificial muscles, highlighting his multidisciplinary engineering expertise.
Dr. Sedaghati’s contributions also extend to structural optimization, such as optimizing thick-walled cylinders and truss systems for enhanced mechanical performance. His research often involves collaborations across engineering disciplines, aiming to bridge theoretical models with practical industrial applications.
