Ramin Naimi is a Professor of Mathematics at Occidental College, where he has been a faculty member since 1998. He holds a B.S. from UCLA and a Ph.D. from Caltech. His office is located in Fowler 317, and he maintains regular office hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7-8 pm, as well as by appointment.
Dr. Naimi specializes in topology with research interests spanning spatial graph theory, low dimensional topology, and knot theory. His expertise also extends to computability theory, complexity theory, mathematical logic, and set theory. He has developed educational tools such as the URM Simulator, a JavaScript-based Unlimited Register Machine simulator for teaching computability concepts.
As an educator, he teaches a comprehensive range of mathematics courses from introductory calculus to advanced topics including topology, set theory, complex analysis, and abstract algebra. His teaching philosophy emphasizes the connections between theoretical mathematics and practical applications, with particular attention to computational aspects of mathematical theory.
Dr. Naimi has developed extensive course materials for subjects like Computability and Complexity (Math 352), demonstrating his commitment to making advanced theoretical concepts accessible to undergraduate students. His syllabi reveal a teaching approach that balances rigorous theoretical foundations with practical problem-solving skills.
