Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran

Mr. Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran is a Sri Lankan-born contemporary artist and Lecturer at the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture of the University of New South Wales (UNSW). His practice critically engages with global histories of figurative representation, South Asian visual traditions, and intersections of idolatry, monumentality, gender, race, and religion.

His research interests include:

• Contemporary sculpture and expanded painting
• Queer and gender theory
• South Asian art histories
• Diasporic visual cultures

Notable awards and recognitions:

• Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship (2019)

His work is held in major public collections including the National Gallery of Australia and Art Gallery of New South Wales.
