Professor Ramesh Kurukulaaratchy ("Prof Ramesh") holds a Professorship in Respiratory Medicine & Allergy at the University of Southampton and serves as Deputy Director of the David Hide Asthma & Allergy Research Centre (Isle of Wight). He maintains clinical roles as Honorary Consultant at University Hospital Southampton and St Mary's Hospital Isle of Wight.
His research focuses on asthma and allergy lifecourse epidemiology, including
- Risk factor identification
- Risk prediction score development
- Prevention strategies
- Phenotyping/endotyping of difficult-to-treat asthma
- T-cell biology in severe asthma
- Micro-RNA biomarker discovery
- Multimorbidity frameworks in asthma
- Multimodal intervention development
Key research projects include the WATCH cohort (650+ patients, £1.5M+ funding), microRNA biomarker studies (patent pending), and international collaborations with La Jolla Institute, UCSD, and Alfred Hospital. He leads the Multimorbidity and Asthma Research Group and the SHARP collaboration across 27 European countries.
Teaching responsibilities include:
