Ramesh C Jain is a Professor at the University of California, Irvine, recognized as a pioneer in computer vision and multimedia. His four-decade-long service to the computing community includes founding the ACM Special Interest Group on Multimedia Systems (SIGMM) and serving as its Chairman (2003-2007). He established foundational conferences and workshops, such as the first NSF workshop on visual information management systems and the ACM Multimedia conference in conjunction with SIGGraph.
- Research focuses on expanding multimedia to encompass Folk Computing and Experiential Computing, exploring how mobile devices and smartphones can enhance lifestyle and healthcare through multimodal data.
