Dr. Ramesh Balasubramaniam is a Professor of Cognitive & Information Sciences at the University of California, Merced. During the 2022-23 academic year, he was affiliated with CCRMA at Stanford University. His research focuses on sensorimotor neuroscience, rhythm processing, and the role of the motor system in music perception and cognition. He employs methods such as 3D motion capture, eye tracking, EEG, TMS, robotic exoskeletons, and dynamical systems modeling.
Research interests include understanding the embodied nature of cognition through motor control studies. His work spans cognitive, neurophysiological, and dynamical systems approaches. The laboratory is supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, the University of California Office of the President, and the Blum Center.
- Labs/Teams: Sensorimotor Neuroscience Laboratory (primary), temporary affiliation with CCRMA, Stanford.
- Advising: Supervises graduate students like Bodo Winter (PhD in CIS).
