معرفی
Ramakrishnan Kannan is an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Neuroscience at Yale School of Medicine. He holds a PhD in Biotechnology from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). His research focuses on understanding axon guidance mechanisms in Drosophila, particularly the role of Abl tyrosine kinase in regulating actin dynamics during neural development. He also investigates genetic and cellular bases of neuropsychiatric disorders, including Alzheimer's disease and bipolar disorder, using patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) models. His work bridges basic science and clinical applications through collaborations in the Discovery Biology of Neuropsychiatric Syndromes (DBNS) initiative.
Key areas of research include: (1) molecular mechanisms of axon patterning and growth cone dynamics, (2) genetic mutations in SeSAME syndrome and other inherited disorders, and (3) translational studies on neuropsychiatric disease models. His recent publications explore Abl signaling pathways in axon morphogenesis, metabolic reprogramming in cancer cells, and iPSC-based disease modeling.
Dr. Kannan's contributions to interdisciplinary research are exemplified through his role in the DBNS center, which integrates clinical medicine and basic science to study neuropsychiatric syndromes. His work spans from Drosophila model systems to human cell culture studies, emphasizing the interplay between genetic, molecular, and cellular mechanisms in health and disease.
