معرفی
Ralf Krampe is a Professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at KU Leuven, where he leads research in the Laboratory for Experimental Psychology. He is also a member of the KU Leuven Brain Institute and serves as Program Director for the Master of Psychology: Theory and Research program. His academic leadership extends to multiple committees including the PPW Faculty Council, Faculty Doctoral Committee for Psychology and Educational Sciences, and various Programma- en Onderwijscommissies (POCs) for undergraduate and graduate psychology and educational sciences programs.
Professor Krampe's research focuses on the cognitive and sensorimotor interactions across the lifespan, with particular emphasis on multitasking abilities and their developmental trajectories. His work investigates how cognitive and motor functions integrate during dual-task performance, especially examining postural control in relation to cognitive demands like listening or speech identification. A distinctive aspect of his research explores how expertise in specific domains (such as music or sports) influences cognitive-motor integration and may mitigate age-related declines. His studies span diverse populations including typically developing individuals across the lifespan, those with intellectual disabilities, and elite athletes.
Analysis of Professor Krampe's recent publications (2023-2025) reveals consistent research themes centered on multitasking across the lifespan with increasing methodological sophistication. His work demonstrates strong interdisciplinary connections between cognitive psychology, neuroscience, kinesiology, and audiology. Recent publications show growing attention to training interventions aimed at improving cognitive-motor integration, particularly for aging populations, and examining how expertise in specific domains affects general cognitive processing. His research increasingly incorporates real-world contexts to enhance ecological validity of findings.
Professor Krampe has secured substantial research funding for multiple projects extending through 2024, including studies on neuropsychological processes underlying expertise and multitasking (2022-2023), age-related changes in multitasking with respect to postural control (2019-2024), and understanding and improving listening as multitasking (2019-2024). His supervisory role is evident in numerous doctoral projects where he serves as promoter or co-promoter, particularly in areas related to cognitive-motor dual-task performance and rhythm perception.
As Program Director of the Master of Psychology: Theory and Research program and through his teaching of advanced courses including Topics in Lifespan Developmental Psychology and Neurocognitive Development over the Lifespan, Professor Krampe plays a significant role in shaping psychological research methodology. His laboratory within the Laboratory for Experimental Psychology and the Brain Institute provides a collaborative environment for investigating the neural and cognitive mechanisms underlying human performance across the lifespan, with particular attention to how these processes change with age and experience.
