Rajeev K Varshney

Professor Rajeev Varshney FRS is Director of the Food Futures Institute at Murdoch University, holding distinguished fellowships in the Royal Society and African Academy of Sciences. His research develops genomic solutions for sustainable agriculture through crop improvement in legumes and cereals.

Research integrates cutting-edge genomics, bioinformatics, and precision breeding to develop climate-resilient crops. Recent publications focus on pangenome analysis, salinity tolerance mechanisms, and heat stress mitigation in food crops. Professor Varshney leads international consortia advancing genomic resources for groundnut and chickpea improvement.

Honors include 2023 Royal Society fellowship recognition for transformative contributions to agricultural genomics. Current work examines flowering time regulation, nutrient efficiency, and disease resistance using systems biology approaches.
