Rajarshi Sengupta serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. With a PhD from the University of British Columbia (2019), his academic journey includes an M.F.A. from University of Hyderabad (2009-11) and a B.F.A. in Printmaking from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata (2005-09).
Dr. Sengupta specializes in the intersection of art practice and historical research, with particular focus on Indian textile traditions. His research interests span printmaking, art history, artisanal histories, textiles, and the theory-practice interface. His scholarly work examines the cultural, historical, and material dimensions of Kalamkari textiles and related artisanal practices in India.
